HPC Pre-Sales Engineer

U.S., Canada, UK, and elsewhere

Position : HPC Pre-Sales Engineer

As an HPC Pre-Sales Engineer at Qvelo, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between technical solutions and business needs. You will work closely with the sales team and prospective clients to understand their high-performance computing (HPC) requirements, develop tailored solutions, and provide technical expertise during the sales process. Your deep understanding of HPC architectures, cloud-based solutions, AI/ML integrations, and industry best practices will be instrumental in helping clients make informed decisions about their technology investments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify and qualify potential HPC opportunities, providing technical support and expertise during client engagements.
  • Analyze client requirements and design tailored HPC solutions, including compute clusters, storage systems, networking, and software configurations that meet performance, scalability, and budget goals.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, demos, and proof-of-concept solutions to showcase the benefits and capabilities of proposed HPC architectures.
  • Work with clients to scope projects, assess workloads, and recommend the most appropriate HPC infrastructure, including on-premises, cloud-based, and hybrid solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including system architects, engineers, and product managers, to develop comprehensive technical proposals and ensure solutions align with customer needs.
  • Provide technical guidance on HPC hardware (e.g., CPUs, GPUs, interconnects, storage) and software (e.g., job schedulers, parallel computing frameworks) to ensure optimal performance.
  • Respond to RFPs (Request for Proposals) and RFIs (Request for Information), preparing detailed technical documentation and solution overviews.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for clients during the pre-sales process, addressing technical questions, concerns, and objections related to the proposed HPC solutions.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in HPC technologies, cloud computing, AI/ML integration, and quantum computing, and advise clients on how emerging technologies can enhance their HPC environments.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop technical collateral, such as white papers, case studies, and solution briefs, to support sales initiatives.
  • Conduct competitive analysis to ensure the company’s HPC solutions are positioned effectively in the marketplace, highlighting unique value propositions.
  • Provide feedback to product and engineering teams based on client interactions, helping to refine and improve existing solutions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience in high-performance computing (HPC) environments, with a focus on solution design, architecture, or technical sales.
  • Proven expertise in HPC architectures, parallel computing frameworks, job scheduling systems (e.g., SLURM, PBS), and storage solutions (e.g., Lustre, GPFS).
  • Experience in designing cloud-based HPC solutions using platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and knowledge of hybrid HPC environments.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML workloads, big data analytics, and integration of machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) into HPC environments.
  • Strong understanding of high-speed networking technologies (InfiniBand, Ethernet) and their role in HPC performance optimization.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in responding to RFPs/RFIs and preparing technical proposals for large-scale IT or HPC projects.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, engineering, and product management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a client-focused mindset and the ability to develop solutions that meet specific business and technical requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GPU-accelerated computing and high-performance AI workloads.
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) or HPC-related technologies.
  • Familiarity with quantum computing and its potential integration into HPC solutions.
  • Previous experience working in a pre-sales engineering role, specifically within the IT, data center, or HPC sectors.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and containerization technologies (Docker, Singularity) in HPC environments.
