Architecture. Infrastructure. Sovereignty.

Qvelo is a Canadian engineering and advisory firm focused on the infrastructure behind artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and digital sovereignty. We work with organizations whose infrastructure decisions carry long-term technical, operational, financial or strategic consequences.

Built around architecture

The technology industry frequently begins with products. Qvelo begins with requirements. Those questions determine the architecture. The products come afterward.

  • What must the environment accomplish, and what data will it process?
  • What performance does the workload need?
  • What needs to remain under the organization's control?
  • What failure modes are acceptable, and how will it scale?
  • What happens when a supplier relationship changes?

Government and academic pedigree

Qvelo has established a strong footprint in two of the most technically demanding parts of the Canadian infrastructure market: the federal government and academia. We hold contracts with some of Canada's largest federal departments and universities.

These organizations operate environments where procurement, security, research requirements, governance, performance, interoperability and data stewardship all intersect. Working in those environments has shaped how Qvelo approaches architecture — a technically elegant system is not enough. It also needs to be governable, supportable, explainable, secure, measurable, and appropriate for the institution that will depend upon it.

Qvelo’s work also extends to federated national research infrastructure, including architecture and strategy for integrating distributed HPC, storage, data and high-speed networking environments across multiple research facilities.

Qvelo is a founding member of the Canadian AI Sovereignty and Infrastructure Coalition (CAISIC), contributing expertise in sovereign AI and HPC infrastructure, technical sovereignty assessments, supply-chain resilience, and secure Canadian research and government computing.

Engineering, not just advice

Qvelo is deliberately not structured as a consultancy that stops at a presentation. Our scaled Test, Development & Benchmarking Environment gives our team the ability to investigate architectures experimentally. That engineering capability informs our advisory work.

  • Test.
  • Benchmark.
  • Reproduce problems.
  • Compare architectures.
  • Validate assumptions.
  • Measure scaling behaviour.

Experience across complex infrastructure

Qvelo's team and consulting network bring decades of experience spanning:

  • Federal government
  • National research infrastructure
  • Universities
  • High-performance computing
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Telecommunications
  • Advanced networking
  • Large-scale storage
  • Cybersecurity
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Data centres
  • Scientific computing
  • Advanced research
  • Regulated environments
  • Complex procurement

The executive question

What risk are we accepting?

The engineering question

Will this actually work?

Our approach

Requirements first

Establish what the system must actually accomplish.

Evidence over claims

Evaluate architecture against evidence rather than branding.

Control must be explainable

If an organization cannot determine where authority resides, it cannot make an informed sovereignty decision.

Measure what matters

Benchmarks should represent relevant workloads and real architectural constraints.

Identify dependencies early

Dependencies discovered during architecture are options. Dependencies discovered after deployment are often costs.

Make trade-offs visible

There is rarely one perfect architecture. Our role is to ensure the trade-offs are understood before a decision is made.

Have an infrastructure decision you need to get right?
